Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a common auxiliary diagnostic tool in dental practice. The technology involved requires specific knowledge and training. A review was carried out by means of searches in the Pubmed database with 19 articles from 2008 to 2016. This study presents the basic concerns about CBCT, the image artifacts compromising the analysis quality and the explanation regarding the basic tools to read the images. Furthermore, it optimally reviews the entire volume of the image, with the main alterations found in each region.
